Wow season is half way over.  As we gear up to compete again please remember that your hard work pays off.  How hard can you work? Are you working harder then your opponent?  Is your practice partner working hard or just going through the motions?  It is your choice to work hard or not. Remember if you don’t work hard you can only complain to yourself.

This month has a lot of competition in it.  With 6 duals and 3-4 tournaments in 4 weeks. We need to start taking care of our bodies. Ice baths would be a great choice. Vitamins and lots of water would be a good idea as well.

Lastly, how do you want to be remembered? There are two new sayings in the wrestling room. "BELIEVE" what does this mean to you? To me, I believe in our program. I believe in the moves that we teach and use. I believe in our wrestlers, and I know how hard they will work. I believe in our coaches and what they know and can give all of you.  I believe in everything we do as a team.  The second is "EFFORT REFLECTS" what does this mean? Effort Reflects is easy to me, what you put in to it you will get out of it.  Effort reflects is above the pictures for a reason. The wrestlers on our wall all worked hard and now their pictures are on the wall forever. Effort Reflects in everything you do.

With the 2012 season fast approaching it’s time to start asking your self two questions. First of all, what have you done today to become a better wrestler? Secondly, how do you want to be remembered after this season is over? It’s easy to look at these and give a simple answer, but its time to go deeper.

What have you done today to become a better wrestler? Can you actually say that you became a better wrestler today. Did you go to practice even though you did not want to? Did you not drink that soda at lunch that you had to have? This is a question that I want you to think about all the time.  You only have yourself to blame if you are not prepared for the season to start.  You don’t need a coach to be around to beg you to wrestle.  Do what you can now so you can do what you want later.

How do you want to be remembered when this season is over? Are you going to be remembered by being the hardest worker in the practice room? How about for placing in every tournament you wrestle in? How about for winning a tournament? There are many ways for people to remember you by. If you want to be remembered for something then ask your self what you should be doing to make it come true.

Lastly, I am very excited about this season. For the first time in a long time I expect to have 3 full teams.  The freshmen that are coming in are very talented and will push even our best wrestlers for a varsity spot.  Every week we will push you to challenge for a spot on a team that is better then where you wrestled the week before.  We changed the way other teams look at Douglas County.  In past years other teams hoped they wrestled us because it was an “easy” win. Now when teams wrestle Douglas County they better be ready for a battle.  Now it’s time to take the next step. I feel that just qualifying for state is not enough anymore. If you go to state, you place. Don’t just talk the talk but walk the walk. Douglas County it’s your time to shine.
